Selecting a web host

Now that you have your domain name, you’ll need to find somewhere to host your actual web pages. Web hosting companies come and go - it is difficult to know which supplier will give good service over the long run. There are many, many factors to consider. Many hosts promise huge amounts of on line storage, and then restrict your use of the resources to a point that you couldn’t possibly use even a fraction of the space. The “terms of service” document or TOS is very important, and may not even be easily available on line!!! Many on line reviews are very biased in favor of their advertisers.

I’ve just completed a review of hosting companies (February 2008) and have selected hostgator based on some reviews I trust. This is not an easy decision. We will be moving 58 accounts, and will probably spend the better part of two months sorting this out. We’ve been forced into the move due to poor performance by our previous hosting companies.
