Uploading images

So, what in the world is Coppermine, and why are we spending time on this?

Once the photos of student artwork have been taken, they will need to be put on the web. For individual portfolios, I will create web photo galleries tailored to each artist, just as I do for Sequm Arts and the Blue Whole Gallery. For example, take a look at a recent page for Catherine Mix:

I’ve got a lot of this process automated, but for routine student assignments, it’s just too much work, and too involved for casual users. So, I’ve installed an automated system that will upload files directly from anyone’s computer, using just a web browser. Coppermine was the best choice of the three available, and we currently have two sites up and running. One is on MrsSteelquist.com and the other at OlympicYouthArts.org.

I’ve set Coppermine to automatically downsize images. However, if you upload images that are much too big, you’ll waste considerable time putting the images up on the site. So, please use the resize steps on the Photoshop page to get the images at least in the ballpark for uploading to Coppermine.

You’ll need to be logged in, with password, to upload images to either gallery. We can set this to let anyone upload, but I think it is dangerous.

So, log into the web site, and click on the “upload” button. Then, just follow the directions to select files right off of your computer. Add the titles and descriptions for interest. We’ll need to work together as a team so that our creation of albums makes sense.
